Frequently asked questions
What are the PPF deposit limits?+
You can deposit between ₹500 and ₹1,50,000 in a financial year, in as many instalments as you like. The full ₹1.5 lakh qualifies for the section 80C deduction in the old tax regime.
Is PPF interest taxable?+
No. PPF is EEE — the deposit, the interest and the maturity amount are all tax-free, which makes it one of the few completely exempt long-term instruments in India.
Can I extend a PPF account?+
Yes, after the 15-year lock-in the account extends in blocks of five years, with or without further deposits.
